About Us

The WAX SKI CLUB of Rochester was formed for the express purpose of introducing the sport of skiing to African Americans. WAX SKI came into existence in 1984 and accepted the goals of the National Brotherhood of Skiers, Inc. (NBS). WAX SKI members have participated in every (NBS) Summit since 1984. We also participate with the NBS Eastern Region Presidents in quarterly operational meetings.

Adult Programs

We don't stop when the snow melts and the lifts shut down. Non Ski activities include our annual Season Opener, Winter Celebration, Season Closer, General Meetings and Happy Hours. Wax Ski has a number of other social activities throughout the year, including our annual pool party, bike rides, golf outings, and whatever else members feel like doing .

Youth Programs

• Provide the opportunity for young skiers and boarders to develop athletic and social skills.
• Encourage participation by making it easy and inexpensive for families to have their kids participate regularly.
• Develop skiers for future race participation.

Youth Program FAQ's

1. Who Can Participate? Children from 5 years of age up through High School.
2. What Do We Do? Our primary program takes place on eight Saturdays in January, February and March, from 2 PM - 8 PM. Every child gets a lesson every time, and then they have free time to ski or snowboard. Children from 5-7 years of age are in a special SkiWee program where they get extra attention that kids this age need to get them off to a positive start.

   Kids often join WAX Ski Club for the ski trips to Vermont, Maine, Northern New York, and to Western US ski areas such as Vail, Colorado or Utah.

   In March comes the opportunity to participate in the National Brotherhood of Skiers Winterfest at Killington, Vermont. Children have the opportunity to ski or ride for two days with coaches and wind up the experience with a race.

3. Where Do We Go? Our 8-week Saturday program takes place at the Bristol Mountain ski area.
4. Should I Snowboard or Ski? It's up to you - almost half of our participants are snowboarders. You must decide at the beginning of the year, which you will do - you can't switch back and forth. Snowboard and ski rental rates at the mountain are the same.
5. What else do we do? This summer, we had a picnic at the beach. Other get-togethers will also happen. Members are called before all events.
6. How much does it cost? Prices for the Saturday program start at $149 for children with their own equipment, $239 including rentals. Prices vary according to age group and how far in advance you sign up.
